FAMILY PLANNING & FERTILITY

Care for the decisions, questions, and possibilities ahead.

Whether you are preventing pregnancy, preparing for pregnancy, or looking for answers about fertility, we begin with your goals and build a practical plan around your health.

Start with your goals and your health history.

Family planning is personal. Your priorities, timeline, health history, and experience with previous methods all matter when considering contraception or preparing for pregnancy.

If conception is taking longer than expected, we can begin with an initial evaluation and help determine appropriate next steps. When specialty fertility care is needed, we can help make that transition clear.

Support for planning (or preventing) pregnancy.

Contraception Counseling And Management

We can help you choose a birth-control method based on your health history, reproductive goals, and preferences. Options include birth control pills, the patch and vaginal ring, Depo-Provera injections, hormonal and copper IUDs, Nexplanon, barrier and nonhormonal methods, and counseling about permanent contraception.

Preconception Care

A preconception visit gives us an opportunity to review your medical and pregnancy history, medications, immunizations, family and genetic history, menstrual cycles, and lifestyle factors before pregnancy. Testing may be recommended based on your history and individual needs.

In-Office Contraceptive Procedures

IUD insertion and removal and Nexplanon insertion and removal are available in our office. We can discuss what to expect, whether a particular method is appropriate for you, and other contraceptive options before you make a decision.

Initial Fertility Evaluation

If you are having difficulty becoming pregnant, we may begin with an initial fertility evaluation before referral to a reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialist.

Evaluation may include a review of menstrual cycles and ovulation, medical and reproductive history, laboratory testing, assessment of ovulation or ovarian reserve when indicated, pelvic ultrasound, and semen analysis for your partner. Evaluation of the uterus and fallopian tubes may also be recommended depending on your history.

When should you consider a fertility evaluation?

In general, an infertility evaluation may be appropriate after 12 months of trying to conceive if you are under 35, or after 6 months if you are 35 or older.

For patients over 40, more immediate evaluation may be appropriate. Earlier evaluation may also make sense if you have irregular or absent periods, known or suspected endometriosis, a history of pelvic disease or surgery, suspected male-factor infertility, or another condition associated with infertility.

A practical path forward.

You do not need to arrive with every answer. We will help organize the questions, explain the options, and identify a reasonable next step.

  • Review your health history, cycles, and goals
  • Discuss contraception or pregnancy-planning options
  • Consider laboratory testing, ultrasound, or other evaluation when appropriate
  • Explain when referral to a fertility specialist may be the best next step
